The setup

It succeeds the original Luppet, which its publisher's own English site states has 'been supporting VTubers' broadcasts worldwide since its release in February 2019,' corroborated by an archived 2023 snapshot of the Japanese site giving the same date. As of 16 September 2026, publisher Luppet Technologies, Inc. has posted a notice changing what current documentation for this tool means.

What the documents show

The homepage states LuppetX tracks a user with 'just two devices,' animates a 3D model exported to VRM, including VRM1.0, and adds features over the original such as an accessory system, motion transmission to external apps, transparent-background output and better behavior when tracking briefly drops. It cites a dated figure: 'As of May 2023, Luppet is used by more than 100 companies worldwide and over 13,000 individual VTubers,' a publisher figure for that period, not a current count. The consequential document is LuppetX's own support page, titled 'LuppetX Free Release Following Company Dissolution.' It states Luppet Technologies, Inc. plans to dissolve, and released a free, offline-processed version 1.1.0 on 23 August 2026 needing no account or license, matching prior functionality. Support ends 4 October 2026, a mandatory update ships that day, older versions stop working once servers close a month later, and, per its FAQ, no refunds apply to licenses already purchased since they were valid at purchase.
