The setup
Once a company lists shares in Japan, it must file an annual securities report, the yukashoken hokokusho, with detailed financial statements and risk disclosures. Cover Corp's own Annual Securities Report for the 8th Fiscal Year, published 1 July 2024 as an English translation of the Japanese original, covers the year from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024, the period its stock information page confirms is Cover Corp's standard fiscal year.
What the documents show
The report states net sales of ¥30,166 million for that fiscal year, up from ¥20,451 million the year before, with ordinary profit of ¥5,623 million and net profit of ¥4,137 million. It also breaks that revenue into four categories: Streaming/Content, ¥7,647 million; Concerts/Events, ¥5,601 million; Merchandising, ¥12,477 million; and Licensing/Collaborations, ¥4,440 million. A note attached to that table states segment names are omitted because the company operates 'a single segment, the VTuber business,' so this four-way split is a revenue breakdown rather than a set of separate reportable segments.
The craft
For anyone tracking where an agency's money actually comes from, that four-line breakdown is more useful than a single revenue total. Merchandising was the largest line in FY2024, ahead of streaming income itself, and licensing and collaborations more than doubled year over year. A maker comparing agencies should note which of these lines a partner or sponsor deal would fall under before assuming 'revenue' means subscription or advertising income alone.
Keeping the creator in control
The same filing states a risk factor tied to the popularity, frequency and continuity of its affiliated VTubers' activities, acknowledging in a formal disclosure that a talent's output is a named business risk, not an afterthought. Editorially, that is worth reading as leverage: a public filing gives outside pressure toward supporting, not just monetizing, the people behind the characters.
- Which of the four revenue categories does a given announcement or partnership actually belong to?
- Is a cited Cover Corp figure from this fiscal year, ending March 2024, or a different one?
- Does the filing's single-segment note change how a merchandising or licensing figure should be read?
Cover Corp's own report turns a single headline revenue number into four traceable lines and a named risk factor. That level of detail is the kind a filed disclosure provides that a press release rarely does.
